Badgers play the Buckeyes in final regular-season game
MADISON, Wis. – The final regular season game of the year takes place on Sunday at McClimon Soccer Complex as Wisconsin competes against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not only is it a huge Big Ten game for both teams but it is also Senior Day for the Badgers.
Here are five things to know
1. SENIOR Day: We will be honoring eight players on Senior Night for their dedication and contributions to the men's soccer program. The eight players include Matt Chandler, Aron Eli Saevarsson, Ignasi Marques, Michael Wampler, Dan Iscra, Tim Bielic, Inaki Iribarren and Carter Abbott. Come out and support the boys to recognize these eight Badgers.
2. PLAYERS TO WATCH: The eyes are going to be on Wisconsin's defense and how they matchup against the offensive threats of Ohio State, who have only lost one game this season. Freshman Drew Brown has established himself as one of the top defenders in the Badger back line, often pairing up Matt Chandler. These two will have their hands full against OSU, but as they have proved many times already, they are willing to step up to a challenge.
Junior midfielder Laurence Wootton leads the way for the Buckeyes with five goals and two assists in 14 games played so far this season. The Englishman has scored in three of the last five games for OSU.
3. LOOKING BACK: The last matchup between these two sides resulted in a 2-0 win for Wisconsin at Ohio State. Ignasi Marques put that game to bed when he scored in the 90th minute to put the Badgers up 2-0. The Badgers are currently on a seven-game win streak against the Buckeyes, with an 9-2 mark in the last 11 matchups.
4. RECAPPING THE WEEK: The Badgers have had a nice break in between their last game at Northwestern on Oct. 23 and Sunday's game against Ohio State. Last Sunday, the Badgers beat Northwestern away from home, 1-0, to clinch their spot in the Big Ten Tournament. Maxwell Keenan scored his sixth goal of the season in the win, coming off of a great assist from Jack Finnegan.
5. HOW TO FOLLOW: The game against Ohio State (9-1-5) is at 12 p.m. and can be streamed on BTN+. Fans can also follow along via live stats or in person at McClimon Soccer Complex where admission is free.
