Badgers edged out 4-3 by Ohio State

Horbach nets first career goal

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Despite an early lead, the Badgers fell 4-3 to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the second game of their weekend series on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.

Freshman Jack Horbach energized the Badgers by forcing a turnover at the OSU blue line and taking it himslef the rest of the way at 16:28 in the first period for a 1-0 UW lead. It marked his first career goal.

Brock Caufield added to the Badger's lead minutes later finishing off a nifty passing play with Charlie Stramel and Mathieu De St. Phalle.

UW took a major penalty with under two minutes left in the first period, but came out ahead when Owen Lindmark scored shorthanded just 34 seconds into the second frame to make it 3-0. OSU goaltender left the puck behind the net for a teammate, but it was Lindmark who got there first, before skating in front and firing it home.

The Buckeyes scored two goals in quick succession seconds to make it a one goal game just past the midpoint. At 10:41, Travis Treloar put his team on the board with a power-play goal from the top of the circle fed by Stephen Halliday and Mason Lohrei. Twenty-eight seconds later, Cam Thiesing hammered in a shot from the slot on a feed from Tyler Duke and Scooter Brickey.

Ohio State evened the score at 11:52 in the third period, when Jake Wise scored on a rebound from Michael Gildon and Halliday to make it a 3-3 game.

Cole McWard then gave the Buckeyes a 4-3 lead 15:22 into the third period on an offensive zone rush, assisted by Halliday and Brickey.

The Badgers pulled goaltender Jared Moe in favor of an extra skater but were unable to get the equalizer, falling 4-3 to Ohio State.
