Wisconsin racks up 45 shots
EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Badgers lost to Michigan State in the final match of the weekend at Munn Ice Arena on Saturday.
For the second consecutive night, the Badgers fired over 40 shots, but still ended up on the short end of the score.
The Spartans (6-3-1, 2-1-1 0-0-1 Big Ten) scored on their first power-play of the game for an early lead in the first period. Miroslav Mucha tapped in a rebound in front of the net for the lead.
Jagger Joshua quickly put MSU up 2-0 after controlling a puck that hit him up high and wristing a shot from the slot
Michigan State's Kelly then scored unassisted on a wrap around to add to the Spartan's first-period lead.
Brock Caufield put the Badgers (2-8-0, 0-6-0 0-0-0 Big Ten) on the board with a power-play goal at 13:43 in the first period. Freshman Ben Dexheimer passed to Cruz Lucius along the boards who worked the puck deep into the Spartan's zone and set up a one-timer for Caulfield at the top of the circle.
A centering pass from Cole Krygier from behind the goal deflected off a Wisconsin defenseman's skate for the Spartan's fourth goal of the period.
Neither MSU nor Wisconsin found the back of the net in the second period.
Michigan State scored once more in the third period to claim the match, 5-1
