Badgers pick up 12 NCAA qualifying times

UW send 22 swimmers to the finals
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The 13th-ranked Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team and the 21st-ranked men's team completed the first two days at the Minnesota Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Badgers picked up 12 NCAA Championship B standards on the first two days with 22 athletes advancing to finals of their respective events on Thursday.
Junior Phoebe Bacon was the top finisher for UW, hitting the wall second overall in the 200 IM in a B time of 1:55.13. She was also a member of the Badgers third-place 800 free relay on Wednesday, teaming with Abby Carlson, Abby Wanezek and Blair Stoneburg to finish in a B time of 7:05.05. Bacon and Wanezek also joined with Hazal Ozkan and Mallory Jump to finish fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:37.49.
Behind Bacon, Wisconsin picked up three other B times in the 200 IM. Jump finished eighth in 1:59.51 for eighth place after touching in 1:59.46 in the prelims. Katie McClintock placed ninth in 1:58.02 while Elizabeth Moore was just a second behind, touching in 1:59.08 for 10th place.
The Badgers also picked up four B cuts in the 500 free as Stoneburg was the top finisher. The freshman touched in 4:45.73 for fifth place after swimming a 4:44.42 in the prelims. Carlson placed seventh in 4:46.28 (4:45.09 in the prelims) while Paige Mckenna took ninth in 4:43.98. Elle Braun also picked up a qualifying time, placing 12th in 4:46.37.
For the men's team, junior Jake Newmark was the top finisher, placing sixth in the 500 free with a B cut time of 4:17.46. Teammate Charlie Jones placed 22nd in 4:31.17 after swimming a 4:25.86 in the prelims.
Newmark also led off the Badgers' eighth-place 800 free relay, teaming with Nico Butera, Zach Ward, and Jude Williams to touch in 6:28.64. Wisconsin also took eighth in the 200 medley relay as the team of Drew Nixdorf, Will Myhre, Andrew Benson and Ben Wiegand finished in 1:25.96.
In the 50 free, junior Andrew Benson placed ninth with a B cut time of 19.47.
Diver Daniel Muller qualified for the NCAA Zone meet on the 1-meter springboard, placing second with 323.05 points.
