Swimming Badgers wrap up Minnesota Invitational

Wisconsin earns 14 more NCAA qualifying times
MINNEAPOLIS -- The top-ranked Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Minnesota Invitational on Saturday, picking up 14 more NCAA qualifying times.
Jake Newmark led the Badgers, earning a silver medal in the 200 backstroke. The junior touched in 1 minutes, 41.59 seconds to earn an NCAA B qualifying standard. Junior Jake DiMartile finished 18th in the back, swimming a personal best of 1:46.44.
Wisconsin picked up two B qualifying times in the 1650 freestyle as Jack Leuthold finished eighth in 15:19.69 and Jude Williams took ninth in 15:20.20.
Junior Andrew Benson earned an NCAA time in the 100 freestyle, placing eighth in 42.96. He also led off the 400 free relay that finished sixth. Benson team with Newmark, Nico Butera and Isaac Casey-Hrenak to touch in 2:53.27.
For the women, the Badgers picked up four NCAA qualifying times in the 1650 free. Sophomore Paige McKenna finished second in 16:08.48 while senior Alivia Lindorfer placed third in 16:11.56. Junior Elle Braun touched in 16:22.48 for sixth place while freshman Blair Stoneburg took seventh in 16:24.79.
In the 200 back, junior Phoebe Bacon finished third in 1:51.22, missing the NCAA A qualifying time by just .32 seconds.
Bacon also teamed with Abby Wanezek, Sophie Fiske and Abby Carlson to place sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:17.50. Wanezek had a personal best of 42.29 in leading off relay. In the open 100 free, she took 10th in a B qualifying time of 49.42.
Wisconsin swept the second through fourth place finishes in the 200 breaststroke behind runner-up Hazal Ozkan. The freshman touched in 2:10.50 for a personal best and NCAA B qualifying mark. Senior Elizabeth Moore finished third in 2:10.80 after swimming a personal best of 2:10.50 in the prelims. Sophomore Katie McClintock completed the sweep, placing fourth in a personal best time of 2:11.97.
In the 200 butterfly, three Badgers placed well in the B final. Senior Mallory Jump finished 10th in an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:57.79 while senior Mikayla Seigal took 12th in 1:59.72. Lindorfer also came back from the mile to take 14th in 2:00.94.
