Quick Six: Badgers travel to No. 2 Minnesota

Wisconsin heads to Minneapolis for two-game border battle with No. 2 Gophers

MADISON, Wis. — After a six game homestand, the Badgers are back on the road Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10, for a pair of games against conference-rival and second-ranked Minnesota. The series marks the last before the team breaks for finals.

Here's six quick things to know before tuning in:

Rosters: Badgers || Gophers

1 - DOWN GOES NO. 5: Wisconsin upset fifth-ranked Michigan last Friday for their third win of the season against top-10 opponents (5-2, 3-0 at No. 10 Minnesota Duluth). The Badgers battled back from a two-goal deficit in the first period before scoring four straight goals to win 6-3.

2 - TEAM EFFORT: Thirteen different Badgers notched points in Wisconsin's six-goal effort over the Wolverines. UW's six goals are the most since their 7-0 win against Ohio State on Feb. 27, 2021.

3 - FOUR FOR NO. 4: Sophomore defenseman Corson Ceulemans who wears number four for the Badgers, extended his point streak to four games with a goal and an assist against Michigan. He netted Wisconsin's go-ahead goal in the first game and set up Jack Horbach's early tally in game two. Ceulemans boasts three goals and six points in his last four games.

4 - STRAMEL SETS SIGHTS ON WORLD JUNIORS: Freshman forward Charlie Stramel was named to the U.S National Junior Team preliminary 32-man roster, USA Hockey announced on Monday.

Stramel, who represented Team USA at the re-scheduled 2022 World Junior Championship back in August, will compete to make the final 23-man roster after camp in Plymouth, Michigan at USA Hockey Arena. He currently sits with three goals and six points in 16 games with the Badgers, including a goal and an assist last weekend against Michigan.

5 - SCOUTING THE GOPHERS: Minnesota boasts a 13-5-0 record, earning a second overall ranking in the national polls. The Gophers are coming off a series sweep of then No. 11/13 Michigan State, winning 5-0 and 6-3.

Freshman Jimmy Snuggerud leads the roster with 11 goals and 23 points in 18 games, followed by Logan Cooley with seven goals and 21 points in 17 games. Justen Close leads their goaltending tandem with a 2.12 goals against average and .919 save percentage.
