
Three Badgers earn Big Ten Weekly awards

Bacon, Stoneburg, and Newmark recognized
MADISON, Wis. – Junior Phoebe Bacon, junior Jake Newmark, and freshman Blair Stoneburg have been recognized by the Big Ten Conference with weekly awards. Bacon was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week while Newmark was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week. Stoneburg earns her second Freshman of the Week award.Â
At the Minnesota Invitational last week, Wisconsin competed in its most competitive meet so far this season, taking on first-ranked Texas and 14th-ranked California.
Bacon, the reigning Big Ten champion in the 100 and 200 back, earned three NCAA B cut times to set the tone for the Badgers. She placed second in the 200 IM in 1:55.13, third in the 200 back in 1:51.22, and third in the 100 back with a time of 51.40. Both of her backstroke times are the fastest in the conference this season.
For the second time this season, Stoneburg has earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. The Jensen Beach, Florida, native earned three NCAA B cut times, placing fifth in the 500 free in 4:45.73, sixth in the 200 free in 1:46.73, and seventh in the 1650 free in 16:24.79. Her times in the shorter distances rank in the top 10 in the Big Ten this season.
Newmark, reigning Big Ten Champion in the 500 free, placed top-six in all his entered events for the meet this past weekend. The junior led the Badgers into their toughest meet so far this season, taking on top-ranked Texas, second-ranked California, No. 24 Minnesota, and No. 25 Arizona. He placed second in the 200 back in 1:41.59, third in the 200 free in 1:33.14, and sixth in the 500 free with a time of 4:17.35.
