Badgers fall to Auburn on day two in Clearwater

Miklesh hits her first home run of the season
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- After starting of the ESPN St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational 2-0 yesterday, the Wisconsin softball team fell to the No. 25 Auburn Tigers, 9-3, Friday afternoon.
The Tiger's offense came ready to jump out of the game, scoring four runs in the first and one run in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.Â
Wisconsin went with three different pitchers in the circle Friday afternoon, starting with Maddie Schwartz, then having Tessa Magnanimo go 4 2/3 inning before Abby Herbst took over for the Badgers.Â
With Magnanimo keeping the Auburn offense at bay through the middle innings of the game, senior leader Ally Miklesh looked to give her team a spark with a solo homerun to center field in the third inning. This was only Miklesh's second home run of her long Badger career as the lefty slap hitter is more used to sprinting around the bases than jogging.
Auburn would tack on two more in the sixth with Wisconsin responding with two of their own off the bat of freshman Brooke Kuffel who scored Molly Schlosser and Fiona Girardot.Â
Wisconsin would threaten with two more hits in the seventh, but the early Tigers lead was too much to overcome.
Bating Cleanup:
- Six Badgers notched hits including a sixth inning double from Kayla Konwent.
- Girardot drew her ninth walk of the season as a disciplined bat at the plate, leading all Badgers in base on balls.
- Morgan Kummer also reached base on a walk followed by her first stolen base of the season.
Up next:
Wisconsin continues its weekend of ranked play as they take on No. 12 Clemson Saturday night at 5 p.m. CT. Watch along on ESPN+ or by following @BadgerSoftball on Twitter.
