Wisconsin drops top-three match-up at Ohio State

Badgers take third seed for WCHA tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team fell 2-1 to No. 2 Ohio State in its final regular-season game on Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.

The Badgers (23-6-4, 18-6-3-2-0-2) held the Buckeyes (24-6-0, 20-6-0) to just two goals, but weren't able to seal a win to split the series. Senior Daryl Watts put up Wisconsin's lone goal at the end of the second period.

The first period was quiet, with neither team able to put a goal on the board.

Ohio State was first to score with a goal under two minutes into the second period. It then added a second goal to get up 2-0 over Wisconsin. Watts got the Badgers on the board at the end of the frame and Ohio State went into the third with a one-goal lead.

Neither team scored in the third period and the game ended 2-1 with Ohio State on top.

Cami Kronish made her third start of the season in the net and made 43 saves.

Head Coach Mark Johnson
On the game overall:

"We had an opportunity, we had a couple good looks at the end and it didn't work out that way. We were short some people again today and it got shorter out there. We made a couple adjustments but you look at it, we competed hard and we did well. I'm fairly happy with the way Cami played… she kept us in the game."

On Cami Kronish starting in the net:
"She played really well in a tough building against a very good opponent, made 45 plus saves. That's all you can ask your goaltender to do."

On the season:
"I congratulate our group on their regular season. We had some hiccups and some hurdles that we had to get over, some adversity, no different than any other season. Overall, it was good. Now we just have to regroup and get ourselves organized for who we're going to play next weekend."

Up Next: Wisconsin is the three seed in the WCHA tournament and will host Bemidji State at LaBahn Arena on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's game will start at 3 p.m. If the teams split the series, they will play a third game at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
