MADISON, Wis. – The Badgers are 21-5 (12-4 B1G) and off to their best start since the 2016-17 season when they also held the same overall record. UW looks to build on that success with a game at Minnesota on Wednesday night with an 8 p.m. start time on Big Ten Network. Before the second installment of the Border Battle this season, here is the Starting Five:
1.) Last Time Out: For the third time this year, all five starters scored in double figures for the Badgers in Sunday's win over Michigan.
Johnny Davis led all Badgers with 25 points, his ninth time hitting that mark, and shot 11-for-17 from the field.
Steven Crowl scored 11 points, while
Tyler Wahl,
Chucky Hepburn, and
Brad Davison added 10 points each on Wisconsin's way to taking down Michigan, 77-63, at home. The team also outscored the Wolverines in the paint, 44-34.
2.) Donations Accepted: Wisconsin shot a season-best 15-for-16 (93.8%) from the charity stripe. It is also the team's third time making 90% or more of their shots from the free throw line this season. Both
Brad Davison and
Jahcobi Neath went 4-for-4 from the line. This season, the Badgers rank fourth in the Big Ten conference converting 74.8% of their free throws. UW (368) holds a significant advantage in free throws made compared to upcoming opponent Minnesota (239).
3.) Final Twenty: The Badgers found themselves tied, 31-31, with the Wolverines at the halftime break, but it was a different story in the second half for No. 15 Wisconsin. The team shot 57.1% from both behind the arc (4-7) and the field total (16-28). Michigan's leading scorer, Hunter Dickinson, only had six points in the second half despite finishing the first period of play with 15 points. UW finished with 46 points in the second half, which is the fifth most for the team this season in a period of play.Â
4.) Finley 24ever: In case you missed it, Michael Finley's No. 24 jersey is now hung at the Kohl Center, where it will remain forever. The Badger legend pushed the program to the 1994 NCAA Tournament. The first time UW had been in the field for 47 years. He was a two-time All- Big Ten honoree and is the only player in school history to score 500 points and average more than 20 points per game in three different seasons. Finley has been a member of the UW Athletic Hall of Fame since 2004 and finished with 17,306 points in his NBA career.
Â
5.) Border Battle Series: The all-time series is tied at 104-apiece after a 66-60 Badger victory earlier this season. Wisconsin has won four of the last five meetings at Williams Arena in Minneapolis. UW is also sitting on a current three-game winning streak against Minnesota.
