Wisconsin in fifth place after two days in Big Ten Championships
Wisconsin's Jake Newmark was crowned the Big Ten Champion in the 500 Free with a time of 4:12.43, breaking a pool record at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. He is UW's first 500 Free Big Ten Champion since Matthew Hutchins won it in 2015.
The 400 Medley Relay team of Wes Jekel, Will Mhyre, Erik Gessner and Jake Newmark will bring home the bronze to Madison after placing third (3:05.09).
Freshman Yigit Aslan also earned a place on the podium in the 500 free, finishing in fifth place with a time of 4:15.20.
The Badgers had two more make it to the podium in the 200 IM with Wes Jekel taking fourth place (1:43.68) and Caleb Aman taking fifth (1:43.72).
Senior Tazman Abramowicz placed eighth in the 1M with a score of 360.45.
The Badgers are in fifth place after seven events with 278 points.

"What a memorable day for the Badgers! After yesterday, I challenged them to come in and chip away at the deficit and they did in a really big way. The men broke three school records, hit an NCAA "A" cut on the 400 Medley Relay and Jake Newmark won our first men's Big Ten Championship since 2015. Taz and Daniel did a great job on the boards as well. There is a lot of swimming & diving to go and we've got to come in thinking it's 0-0 tomorrow."
