SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The Wisconsin softball team recorded its first series sweep of the season thanks to a 6-1 win over Utah on Wednesday.
After winning both games yesterday under the helm of
Maddie Schwartz, sophomore
Ava Justman got the start in the circle for the Badgers. After giving up three hits and a run in the first inning, the left-handed pitcher threw lights out down the stretch to match the defensively sound Badgers.
Down 1-0, it was all Badger bats after the first inning.
Wisconsin got on the board and took the lead with two runs in the third inning, scoring off of a five hit inning including RBI's from
Ellie Hubbard and
Peyton Bannon.
Extending the lead in the fourth, Wisconsin plated three more runs thanks to hits from
Molly Schlosser and
Brooke Kuffel and a two-RBI triple by
Lauren Foster. Foster was then scored on a Hubbard single to take a 5-1 lead in the fourth.
Adding one more run in the sixth, Bannon recorded her second RBI of the game, bringing in
Kayla Konwent from second base who earned base via a walk earlier in the inning.
Justman earned her fourth win of the season and had three strikeouts while issuing only one walk.
Foster led the way offensively for the Badgers going 3-3 on the day with one RBI, scoring two Wisconsin runs. Bannon, Hubbard and Schlosser followed close behind as they all went 2-4 from the plate with twp RBIs each for Bannon and Hubbard. Konwent scored two Badger runs in a game where she was walked twice and reached base in three out of her four plate appearances.
Batting Cleanup
- This marks the first time that the Badgers have swept a series against a PAC-12 Team.
- Bannon and Ally Miklseh each had five hits during the sweep while Bannon had a team-high six RBI during the weekend.
- The Badgers went 7-1 in Utah during their spring-break trip, outscoring their opponents 53-22
- UW has won 9 of its last 10 games.
