MADISON, Wis—The Wisconsin men's track and field team opens its outdoor season this weekend as some of the team heads to the state of Texas for two meets. The Badgers compete at the Texas Relays in Austin on Thursday-Saturday as well as the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos on Thursday-Saturday. Badger events begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Texas Relays while events at the Bobcat Invitational begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Here are five events to watch this weekend.

1. FIVE-STAR THROWS: Top-10 indoor rankings for throwers Andrew Stone, Sam Coil, Jason Swarens, Cole Hooper, and Dan Ufearo will hopefully lead to top-10 outdoor marks as the quintet is scheduled to compete in the shot put, discus, and hammer this weekend. Stone ranks third in the outdoor shot put at 63 feet, 4 3/4 inches while Hooper and Ufearo rank sixth and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw at 202-0 and 192-3.
2. DEBUT FOR L.O.: Coming off a fourth-place finish in the NCAA Indoor 60 meters, Lawrence Johnson makes his outdoor debut in the 100 meters. In 2021, Johnson qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, running the third-fastest time of 10.22 seconds in the dash.

3. HURDLING DAVIS: With a personal best of 51.59 in the 400-meter hurdles last season, sophomore Davis Wenthe continues his quest for a top-10 appearance. Wenthe, who qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the hurdles in 2021, will compete in the hurdles this weekend.

4. CLEARING THE WAY: Junior Chandlar Ifft and redshirt junior Canon Melstrand will be competing in this weekend's pole vault. Melstrand recorded a personal best of 16-7 3/4 during the 2022 indoor season.

5. HOP, SKIP AND JUMP: Senior Peyton Frankenreider and redshirt junior Connor Barfknecht will jump their way into outdoor season, competing in the triple jump.
