Markham named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

Senior earns second weekly accolade of season
MADISON, Wis. —  Coming off a perfect weekend of individual competition, Wisconsin's Ava Markham was recognized as Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
The second weekly honor of the season for Markham, the senior from Demarest, New Jersey went 4-0 in competition over the weekend with a pair of doubles victories, as well as two singles victories highlighted by a ranked upset.
Ava Markham improved to 14-3 (4-1 in Big Ten play) in singles play this season, including an upset over No. 11 Kari Miller of Michigan on Sunday.
Markham has now won eight of her last nine singles matches, including two straight. Since moving to No. 1 singles for Wisconsin, Markham is 5-1 at the top spot this season.
In doubles play, Markham went 2-0 over the weekend competing with partner Ariel Johnson. The duo now holds a 13-4 record in doubles play this season.
Markham helped lead the Badgers to a 6-1 win over Michigan State on Friday with a win in both singles and doubles play.
Wisconsin returns to action this Thursday hosting Maryland. The dual match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
