Wisconsin in fifth place after day two of Big Tens

Hassan and Johnson lead finals qualifiers
MINNEAPOLIS—The Wisconsin men's track and field team added five more points to its score, tying for fifth in the team standings after day two of the Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships.
Nebraska leads the team race with 35 points while Minnesota is second with 34 points. Only six points separate the next four teams with Wisconsin tying Purdue with 22 points.
Jack Herkert recorded a personal best of 14.57 seconds in the decathlon 110-meter high hurdles to finish second. He also had a personal best of 119 feet, 3 inches in the decathlon discus to place 10th, and placed 11th in the decathlon 1500 meters with a personal best finish of 4:54.78. .
Lansill recorded four personal bests on the day, including winning the 1500 meters in 4:27.02. He also finished eighth in the discus at 122-8, 11th in the pole vault at 13-1 1/2, and eighth in the javelin at 157-0.
Max Herkert had an impressive showing in the pole vault, improving his personal best by more than a foot to finish fourth with a clearance of 15-5. He also recorded personal bests in the 110-meter high hurdles, crossing in 15.30 for 10th place, and in the discus, throwing 121-4.
Stone finishes fifth in shot put
Junior Andrew Stone was a top-five finisher in the shot put, throwing 61-9 ¾ . Redshirt sophomore Jason Swarens just missed scoring, placing 10th with a toss of 58-6.
In the only other final for UW, Kavanaugh FitzPatrick finished 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:19.69.
Sophomore Abdullahi Hassan also qualified for the final of the 800 meters, winning his heat in 1:50.16. He has the fourth-fastest qualifying time.

Herkert leads Badgers in decathlon
Graduate transfer Jack Herkert finished eighth in the decathlon to lead the Badgers in the mutli-event.
