Stubler breaks 32-year old school record
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Redshirt junior Josie Schaefer booked her ticket to the NCAA Championships to highlight the first day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Round for the Wisconsin women's track and field team.
Schaefer advanced to her fifth-straight NCAA Championship by finishing eighth in the shot put, throwing 55 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
In other finals, grad transfer Danielle Orie finished 29th in the 10,000 meters, crossing in 34 minutes, 50.24 seconds. Freshman Julia Moore tied for 38th in the pole vault with a height of 12-6 while Chloe Lindeman took 40th in the hammer with a throw of 180-3. Â
The senior from Menomonee Falls recorded the fourth-fastest time on the day, finishing second in her heat in 57.13 to automatically qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals. Her time broke the previous best UW time of 57.16 set by Tracy Mattes in 1990.
Junior Victoria Heiligenthal qualified for the next round of the 1,500 meters, running a personal best time of 4:18.24. She automatically advanced by finishing fourth in her heat. Redshirt freshman Emma Watcke was just three places out of advancing, placing 27th in 4:22.59.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Destiny Huven was an automatic qualifier, finishing second in her heat and seventh overall in 13.16.
Sophomore Kiley Robbins also advanced to the quarterfinals in her event, placing 19th in the 100-meter dash dash in 11.54. She finished fifth in her heat to advance on time.
