Next Gen Badgers: Stramel wins silver at U18 World Championship

Forward will bring size and scoring to the Badger offense for 2022-23 season

MADISON, Wis. — Incoming Wisconsin Badger Charlie Stramel claimed a silver medal with Team USA at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship earlier this spring in a tournament that ran April 23-May 1 in Germany. Team USA outshot Sweden, 51-15, in the gold medal game, but still settled for the silver.

The forward scored two goals and three assists in six tournament games.

Stramel comes to the Badgers from the U.S. National Team Development Program and the U.S Under-18 Team. As a member of the Under-17 Team in 2020-21, he tallied 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 45 games. He missed a portion of the 2021-22 season with the under-18 team due to injury but returned for 28 games and put up 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points.

A 6-3 and 215-pound forward out of Rosemount, Minnesota, Stramel is expected to add some size, strength and scoring to the Badgers' offense.

With an October 2004 birthday, Stramel will be the youngest Badger on the roster for the 2022-23 season. His late birthday also makes him eligible for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft where early projections have him as a potential first-round draft pick.
