Two incoming Badgers found success in historic season

MADISON, Wis. — Two incoming Badgers helped lead the Madison Capitols to the USHL Clark Cup Final in an historic season for the franchise. 

Ben Dexheimer, a defenseman from Edina, Minnesota, and Jack Horbach, a forward from Naperville, Illinois, were integral parts of the roster that clinched the Capitols' first playoff appearance and set a new franchise record for wins. 

The Capitols claimed the title of Eastern Conference champions for the first time in their history but ultimately fell to the Sioux City Musketeers with a 2-1 overtime loss in game four of the Clark Cup Championship.

Horbach served as captain for the Capitols during their record-breaking season. He tallied eight goals and 25 assists in 49 regular season games with an additional two goals and six assists in 14 playoff games. 



Horbach comes to the Badgers with three seasons of experience in the USHL. He skated with the Lincoln Stars during the 2020-21 season where he was teammates with current Badger forward Zach Urdahl.

Dexheimer was a key part of the Capitols' blue line in their championship run with two goals and eight assists in the playoffs. He was named the USHL's defenseman of the week for the Eastern Conference Final against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. His two goals and four assists in the five-game series helped the Capitols advance to the Clark Cup Final. He was third on Madison with 47 points on eight goals and 39 assists in 60 regular-season games.

Dexheimer inked his commitment to UW back in February and is among those set to join the Badgers in the fall.
