Badgers open season with top-10 ranking

UW checks in at No. 6 in USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll
MADISON, Wis. – After earning the program's 52nd Big Ten Conference title a year ago, the Wisconsin men's cross country team will open the year ranked No. 6 in the country according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches' Poll that the association announced Wednesday.Â
The Badgers are the highest ranked team in the Big Ten Conference as UW is joined by Michigan State (28) and Michigan (30) in the rankings.Â
UW will see seven of the other top-10 teams in the preseason poll at the 2022 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Oct. 14 at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison.Â
The ranking comes on the heels of UW opening the season as the No. 1 team in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings that were released on Tuesday.Â
The Badgers return four of their five scorers from last year's Big Ten Championship team, including Bob Liking, who became the 26th Badger to win a Big Ten individual title a year ago.Â
UW opens its 2022 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 7 with the Badger Open at the Zimmer Championship Course. Racing is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.Â
