Wisconsin erupts in second half to down Iowa, 3-1

Badgers score three goals in second half

IOWA CITY, Iowa - For the second straight game, the Wisconsin women's soccer team netted three goals in the second half as it downed Iowa, 3-1, Friday night in its Big Ten opener.

Emma Jaskaniec rung up her scoring streak to six games, as she tied the match up at 1-1 in the 46th minute.

Aryssa Mahrt kept the momentum on Wisconsin's side, delivering the go-ahead goal just over a minute later. Rylee Howard drove down the field before threading between a pair of defenders to Mahrt, who drove the ball into the back of the net.

Mahrt kept the nose for the goal as she wove around a defender before finding Natalie Viggiano in the center of the box, who one-timed the ball into the near corner of the net in the 50th minute.

After getting just one shot off in the first half, the Badgers outshot the Hawkeyes 8-5 in the ensuing frame to earn the road victory.

The Badgers will next visit Purdue on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., which can be seen live on ESPNU.
