MADISON, Wis.-- The No. 7 Wisconsin men's cross country team travels to the University of Minnesota to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational this Friday. The men's gold 8K race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the men's maroon 6K race will start at noon at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.

1.  A 'W' TO START THE SEASON: The Badgers kicked off their cross country season with a win at their own Badger Open on Sept. 8. Senior Derick Peters opened his season with a win for the Badgers, covering the 6,75-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 58.3 second. Peters was followed closely by eight other Badgers, who finished within four seconds of first place.

2. TOP RANKINGS: The Badgers still hold the No. 1 ranking in the Great Lakes Region, according to USTFCCCA Week 3 rankings. UW is also No. 7 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll. 

3. FIRST CHALLENGE OF THE SEASON: Wisconsin heads to Big Ten rival Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational and will face several other Big Ten teams, including No. 28 Michigan State and Ohio State. UW's toughest competition should come from No. 9 Iowa State.

5. UP NEXT: Following the Roy Griak Invitational, the Badgers will head to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 30. The seeded men's 8K race starts at 1:30 p.m.
