
Wisconsin finishes eighth at Windon Memorial Classic

Legros rallies in third round to lead No. 25 Badgers at T13 (+2)
SKOKIE, Ill. — No. 25 Wisconsin men's golf traveled to the Windon Classic this week at the Evanston Golf Course in Skokie, Illinois and finished eighth overall out of 14 teams at 14-over par (289-286-279=854). The Badgers saw several strong improvements in Tuesday's round three individual efforts.
Tuesday, Sept. 27
Wisconsin's golfers rallied in the third round of the Windon Classic on Tuesday. Climbing 30 spots in the individual standings to T13, Maxime Legros shot a 4-under par 66, including five birdies to lead the Badgers on the final day of competition. Teammate Clayton Tribus also finished in the top 20 at T18 with 2-over par 72 in his final round.
"The guys showed a lot of grit and I'm really proud of how they managed their games today," said Wisconsin head coach Mike Wilson. "Maxime had a great round which helped carry us. I'm looking forward to this weekend in Milwaukee at the Marquette Intercollegiate."
Coalter Smith also improved five spots to T24 after finishing even par 70, while Daniel Aas (T33) turned in a 1-over par 71 and Cameron Huss (T48) 2-over par 72.
In the team standings, Northwestern surged to take the title and finished 10-under par on Tuesday and 2-under par overall (838). Kent State (+7) and Little Rock (+7) tied for second to round out the top three.
Monday, Sept. 26
The Badgers opened up play with 36 holes on Monday and finished the day tied for eighth place overall (575 team points) and 15-over par. Wisconsin improved their second-round play by three strokes, improving from 9-over (289) to 6-over (286).
UW tied with Oral Roberts after two rounds, while Kent State led the tournament at 4-under (277-279=556). Marquette (-3) and Memphis (-1) held second and third place respectively.
Tribus finished in the lead for the Badgers at T13 (+1) after the UW senior shaved three strokes off his round one performance (72, +2) to improve to 1-under 69 in the second round for a 36-hole total 141. Smith finished T29 (+4), while Aas finished T37 (+5), Legros T43 (+6) and Huss T57 (+8).
Wisconsin returned to play on Tuesday for round three's 18 holes at 8 a.m. with tee times off Hole 1 along with host Northwestern and Oral Roberts.
