CHICAGO – The Wisconsin women's track and field team won three events and recorded four all-time top-10 marks at the Badgers Midwest Invitational at Gately Stadium on Saturday. The Badgers competed against Illinois, Milwaukee, Purdue, and Southern Illinois in the meet.

Sippy leads mile Badgers 

In the mile, all five top finishers were Badgers, finishing within four seconds of one another. Redshirt senior Peyton Sippy crossed the finish line first in a time of four minutes, 54.97 seconds, following right behind was sophomore Kylie Finger, who crossed in 4:56.82 seconds. Sophomores Maggie Munson and Mya Bunke crossed the line less than a second apart in 4:56.93 and 4:56.98, respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Badgers was Leané Willemse, who crossed in 4:58.25. Finger, Munson and Willemse competed in their first collegiate mile while Bunke improved her personal best by nearly seven seconds.

Bellino, Schaefer win events 

Graduate student Danielle Bellino finished first in the 600 meters, crossing in 1:32.32. 

Graduate student Josie Schaefer won the shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 8 inches. She was accompanied by fellow Badgers Danni Langseth and Chloe Lindeman. Langseth recorded an indooor personal best of 48-5 1/4 to finish second while  Lindeman took fifth at 43-0 1/2.

Six Badgers finished among the top-10 performers in the weight throw.  Lindeman threw for 70-2 to place second. Her mark ranks second in the Big Ten and sixth nationally. Olivia Roberts took home third at 69-5 1/4. Redshirt freshmen Asia Rave and Abby Peeler both recorded throws that earned them a spot on the UW all-time indoor performance list. Rave finished fifth at 63-5 1/2 while Peeler placed sixth at 63-1 1/4, ranking them eighth and ninth at Wisconsin, respectively. Chikere Oduocha took eighth at 56-9 1/2 while Langseth was ninth at 56-8.

Other top finishers 

Sophomore Julia Moore led the way for the Badgers in the pole vault, clearing 12-4 1/2 for fourth place. Three Badgers tied for seventh place with clearances of 11-10 as Lauren Bilau, Tia Dorshorst, and Kenzi Kluge all recorded top-10 finishes.

Senior Destiny Huven took fifth in the 60-meter dash in a personal best of 7.54 while Taylor Gilling came in right behind Huven, placing sixth in a personal best time of 7.57. Huven's time ranks her fifth on the UW all-time top-10 list while Gilling moves into a tie for seventh.

Freshman Bella Jacobsen made her first appearance on the track, placing second in the 3000 meters, crossing in 9:57.80. Following right behind was Heidi Heuerman and Erinn Hill finishing in third and fourth place, respectively, with times of 10:02.64 and 10:03.76. 

Up Next 

Most of the Badgers will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, next Friday-Saturday for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Athletes will also head to Ripon College on Saturday.
