MADISON, Wis. – Chucky Hepburn scored 15 points, while Max Klesmit added 12 points and eight rebounds in his return from a two-game injury absence, but Wisconsin suffered a 61-51 loss against Illinois on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
The duo of Hepburn and Klesmit combined to score 18 points from 3-point range, each hitting three from behind the arc.
The Badgers (12-8, 4-6 Big Ten) trailed, 20-16, at halftime. UWÂ shot just 6-for-33 in the first half and finished the game at 33.3 percent from the floor.
A 15-2 run from Wisconsin helped pull the Badgers back into the lead at 35-34 with 11:32 left.
The Fighting Illini (15-6, 6-4 B1G) countered, however, and went on a 22-4 run that began midway through the second half, which erased UW's only lead in the half and put the Illini ahead by as much as 17 – a lead Illinois would not give up the rest of the way.
In the second half, both teams responded and each shot 13-for-24 from the floor for 54 percent.
Illinois was 11 of 18 at the line for the game, while Wisconsin was 4 of 7.
Foul trouble plagued Wisconsin, including leading scorer Tyler Wahl played just 19 minutes after picking up two early fouls in the first half, then four midway through the second half. Steven Crowl, who finished with seven points and seven rebounds, also dealt with foul trouble and finished the game with four called against him.
