Brock Caufield nets eighth goal of the season

MADISON, Wis. — All four goals in the game came on the power play, but three of those went to Notre Dame as lhe Wisconsin men's hockey team dropped the series finale against No. 20 Notre Dame, 3-1, on Saturday at Compton Family Ice Arena.

Notre Dame's power play put the Badgers on their heels after the Fighting Irish established a first-period lead.

Landon Slaggert scored on the man-advantage to take a one-goal lead at 12:10 in the first period. Ryder Rolston sent the puck to Nick Leivermann on the point, who fired a shot that was deflected into the net by Slaggert.

Wisconsin killed off a five-minute major penalty heading into the second period.

Notre Dame's Hunter Strand added to the lead with a power-play goal at 12:14 in the second period. Drew Bavaro and Jesse Lansdell battled for the puck in a scrum in front of goaltender Jared Moe, but it was Hunter Strand who picked up the loose puck and backhanded it into the net.

Chase Blackmun scored on the power play at 4:36 in the third period to give Notre Dame a 3-0 advantage. Chayse Primeau directed the puck to Leivermann on the point off the face off. Leivermann slid a pass over to Blackmun who let off a wrist shot that found the net..

Wisconsin went on the power play and pulled Moe in favor of an extra skater after Notre Dame got called for slashing in the third period. The Badgers got on the board at 14:46 after Brock Caufield found the back of the net. Cruz Lucius found Carson Bantle down on the goal line, who then turned to put the puck on net. Brock Caufield picked up the loose puck and picked the top corner with a wrist shot.

A second five-minute major penalty came up shortly after UW's first tally, interrupting the Badgers comeback bid in a game they eventually fell, 3-1.

Fifth-year grad student Brock Caufield's eighth goal of the season set a career high
Junior defenseman Luke LaMaster was called for 22 minutes in penalties, matching the second-highest total for a game in UW history
Both teams finished with 29 shots on goal
