Badgers fall to No. 5 Duke in tight battle

Wisconsin looks ahead to home doubleheader on Thursday
DURHAM, N.C. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team (3-2) fell to No. 5 Duke (5-0) in North Carolina on Sunday in a day full of hard-fought matches.

The Badgers once again did not back down against one of the top teams in the nation on Sunday. Despite Wisconsin losing the doubles point, Ava Markham and Maria Sholokhova managed to put up quite the fight against No. 13 Chloe Beck and Cameron Morra, narrowly losing 6-4. Additionally, Alina Mukhortova and Xinyu Cai came away with the win against Ellie Coleman and Karolina Berankova, 6-3.
On the singles side, Cai triumphed against Iuliia Bryzgalova, 6-3, 6-4, while Taylor Cataldi managed to force Georgia Drummy to a third set. Mukhortova was slotted against No. 22 Emma Jackson and although the match was unfinished, she was in contention for the win.

Next up, the Badgers host their first match of the season at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium against Northern Illinois at 9:30 a.m. (CT) on Thursday. Wisconsin also plays Milwaukee after NIU at 1 p.m. (CT).
