No. 2 Badgers drop 3-1 decision to No. 8 Minnesota Duluth

UW drops first home game of the 2022-23 season

MADISON, Wis. – The second-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team dropped 3-1 decision to No. 8 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon at LaBahn Arena

Casey O'Brien scored the lone goal for the Badgers (16-4-1, 12-2-1-1-1-0 WCHA), scoring midway through the first period, tipping in a Caroline Harvey shot to give UW a 1-0 lead.

However, UMD tied the game up at 1-1, knocking a loose puck into the UW net midway through the second stanza.

The Bulldogs captured the lead early in the third period and added to the tally with 90 seconds left to put the game out of reach for the Badgers.

Cami Kronish made 28 saves in the setback.

Coach Mark Johnson
On his overall thoughts on the game:

"I thought with how the game started, the first 15-17 minutes, they had a lot of energy and a bunch of opportunities, they just weren't able to capitalize on it, which seemed to be the theme of the entire game. It was entertaining hockey, their top line played well and their goaltender played extremely well."

On bouncing back tomorrow:
"We have to come out and try to establish things early and see if we can get on the scoreboard. Again, if we continue to create opportunities, eventually the puck will go in… We're going to move forward tomorrow and do some things in the first period that generate scoring opportunities, and hopefully we can capitalize on a few."

Up Next:
