Badgers edge out Purdue at home

Wisconsin celebrates senior day win

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team (8-2-3) took down Purdue (3-9-1) on Sunday, Oct. 1 in a thriller. The Badgers came away with a 2-1 victory that puts them third in the Big Ten standings with a 3-1-1 conference record.

How it happened
It was Senior Day at the McClimon Soccer Complex on Sunday, with eight Badgers being recognized prior to kick off. Emma Jaskaniec, Macy Monticello, Dara Andringa, Ali Fine, Gabby Green, Izzy Verdugo, Rachel Dallet, and Erin McKinney were all honored for their dedication and commitment to the women's soccer program.

It did not take long for the Badgers to get on the board, with none other than Emma Jaskaniec scoring in the eighth minute. Ashley Martinez played in a lofted ball into the box off a corner kick, with Jaskaniec heading it into the back of the net. The redshirt senior has now scored in back-to-back matches and extends her season statistics to five goals and four assists.
Martinez doubled the score for the Badgers in the 23rd minute; the junior took a crack from outside the box and stunned the Purdue keeper. Martinez now has two goals and one assist on the season, contributing to both goals against the Boilermakers.

Heading into the half, Wisconsin lead 2-0 and held a nine to one shot ratio against Purdue.
The Boilermakers stepped it up in the second half and put more pressure on the Badgers. The side got one back on the 62nd minute off a set piece. However, Wisconsin was able to stifle any last minute comeback by Purdue and closed out the match.

It is a big conference win for the Badgers, who continue to rise up the Big Ten standings and now sit third.
