MADISON, Wis. – With just four games left on the season, the Wisconsin men's soccer team, 4-3-5 (1-1-3 Big Ten), will begin their first of two road conference games when they travel to New Jersey to face Rutgers, 3-6-2 (1-3-1 Big Ten). The rematch of Wisconsin's Big Ten Tournament game last season will take place Friday, Oct. 13, and will kick off at 5 p.m. CT.
Here's what you need to know before the game.
1 – Containing the Competition – The Badgers held Bradley to just two shots on goal in their last match. The Badgers have been adept in preventing shots all season long. Their opponent's 6.8 shot attempts per game is the lowest mark in the Big Ten, while their 3.4 shots on goal allowed per game rank third.
2 – Put your Belief in Keefe – Ryan Keefe, usually an outside back, shifted to center back for his fifth start of the season last match. The junior made the most of his game, heading in a corner for the first goal of the game. The goal was the second of his career, and his first of the season.
Â
3 – Raimbault Doesn't Relent – Keefe got the goal, but it was Thomas Raimbault's beautiful corner kick that set up the score. Raimbault netted his second assist on the season and now has three points in his last three matches, the most of any Badger in that span.
Â
4 – Know the Knights – It's been an offense-centered season for Rutgers, second in the Big Ten in shots, and fourth in goals, however, they have allowed the most goals of any team in the conference and give up the most shots on goal per game. Despite this, UW leads the all-time series against Rutgers 6-5-1, last winning in 2021.
5 – Keepin' up with the Standings – With just three conference games remaining for the Badgers before the tournament, Wisconsin currently sits fifth in the conference. Their six points is only four less than the number one team, Northwestern. Only three teams have multiple conference wins, leaving room for Wisconsin to rise. The top four seeded teams in the conference will host in the Big Ten tournament.
Extra Time – Friday's game against Rutgers will air on the Big Ten Network in the Badger's second nationally televised game of the season. Live updates can be found on the @BadgerMSoccer X page – formerly twitter, as well as @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
Kickoff on Friday is set for 5 p.m. CT, at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Up Next:Â Wisconsin gets the week off before playing another conference opponent on the road, Ohio State on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. CT.
