UW begins conference play with MSU
MADISON, Wis. –  The top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team continues its stint at home with a series against Minnesota State. Puck drop on Thursday and Friday is set for 7 p.m.
Tickets still remain for Thursday's contest while Friday's game is sold out.Â
Fans should note that parking this season will be $5 per game in Lots 29, 46 and 91. ADA parking is also available for $5 in Lots 44 and 87 and is subject to availability. All parking lots will open two hours prior to the event or not before 5 p.m. on weekdays.Â
Fans that can't make it to the series can watch the games on B1G+ or listen to the games on 1070 AM as Noah Clark and Aidan Michaels have the call from LaBahn.Â
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin swept Boston College in the home opener series, flying past the Eagles 5-3 on Thursday before picking up a 12-2 win on Friday. Britta Curl once again led the offense, recording seven points on three goals and four assists. Lacey Eden and Sarah Wozniewicz each also found the back of the net three times against BC. Goalies Jane Gervais and Ava McNaughton each picked up a win in the series. Wisconsin improved to 9-0-0 all-time against Boston College.Â
2. MANKATO CONNECTIONS: The Badgers and Mavericks are connected in more ways than meets the eye. Both teams feature head coaches from the historic 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team that captured gold in Lake Placid, New York. UW head coach Mark Johnson and MSU head coach John Harrington each tallied points in the legendary semi-final game against the Soviets. Additionally, senior defender Anna Wilgren transferred from Minnesota State to Wisconsin after spending five seasons with the Mavericks. Wilgren collected 42 points on 12 goals and 30 assists throughout 91 games and captained the team for three-straight seasons.Â
3. HIGH-FLYING OFFENSE: UW has started the season off strong, posting an impressive 39 goals in just four games to lead the entire country. Eight of those goals were scored on the power play, which also tops the charts. Captain Britta Curl leads both the Badgers and the country in points with 13 on four goals and nine assists. Â
4. MOVING UP THE CHARTS: Britta Curl's power play goal on Friday night puts her tied for ninth in school history as she became the just 10th Badger to tally 20 power play goals. The captain posted seven points in the Boston College series and now ranks 19th in school history for career points with 131. Casey O'Brien's game-winning goal on Friday marked her 50th career goal and moved her up in the UW career game-winning goal chart, where she is now tied for 13th with 14 game-winners.Â
5. AGAINST THE MAVERICKS: Wisconsin leads the all-time series against Minnesota State 99-3-3, including a 56-2-1 record for the Badgers when hosting the Mavericks. Britta Curl and Casey O'Brien have shined against MSU, with Curl tallying eight goals and three assists in 14 games, and O'Brien posting seven goals and five assists in 10 games against the Mavericks. The two teams last faced each other on February 25, 2023, resulting in a 4-1 win for the Badgers and gaining them a trip to the 2023 Kwik Trip WCHA Final Faceoff.Â
