MADISON, Wis. – Finishing off their season with an overall record of 6-4-6, and a Big Ten record of 2-2-4, the eighth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers will take on the top-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament. The quarterfinal match will take place on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. CT in Bloomington, Indiana.
Here's some things to look out for before the game.
1 – B1G Rematch – Wisconsin and Indiana will play their second match against each other this season. The first came on Sep. 15, when the teams fought to a scoreless draw at Indiana's Bill Armstrong Stadium. There were only three shots on goal between the two teams, but the tie ended a six-match skid Wisconsin had when playing at Indiana.
2 – Matchup History – The last time the Badgers beat Indiana in Bloomington was their NCAA tournament matchup in 1993 when Nate and Charlie Crockford's father played for the Hoosiers. The last time Wisconsin beat Indiana overall was in 2013. In nine conference tournaments against each other, Wisconsin sits 0-7-2, with both ties ending in UW penalty-kick success. That includes in 2017 when Wisconsin captured the Big Ten championship.
3 – Birgir Comes up Big – In his last match against Penn State, Birgir Baldvinsson scored his second goal of the season. The goal came on a corner kick taken by Baldvinsson himself, soaring past everyone and into the net. Birgir has started all 15 games that he has played and is the only defensive player on the team to have scored a goal.
4 – Crockford is Cookin' – Nate Crockford made a season-high six saves for the Badgers during the Penn State match, while only allowing one goal on a tough chance. Crockford so far this season was a Big Ten Defender of the Week, a TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week member, and leads all Big Ten goalies in shutouts (7).
5 – Opponent Observing – Since their match against Wisconsin, Indiana has gone 7-2-1 with four conference wins, allowing them to clinch a share of the Big Ten's regular season title. They've got it done with their defense, a squad that has allowed the least goals in the conference. Goalkeeper J.T. Harms leads in goals against average at .654. On the other side, forward Samuel Sarver has scored six goals in Indiana's 10 games since Wisconsin.
Extra Time – The game will be live streamed on the B1G+ app, and on the web at bigtenplus.com. Look for live updates on the @BadgerMSoccer X (formerly twitter) page, and @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
Up Next: If Wisconsin advances, they will play on Wednesday Nov. 8, against the winner of the Northwestern/Michigan game.
