Top-ranked Badgers blast Eagles 12-2

UW tallies most goals ever at LaBahn Arena

MADISON, Wis. – Nine different Badgers scored as the top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team completed the sweep of Boston College with a 12-2 win on Friday night at LaBahn Arena.

Britta Curl, Lacey Eden and Sarah Wozniewicz each potted two goals for the Badgers (4-0-0), while Cassie Hall, Casey O'Brien, Ava Murphy, Laila Edwards, Vivian Jungels and Kirsten Simms also found the back of the net against the Eagles (0-4-0).

After nearly 18 minutes of back and forth play, Eden capitalized on the power play for her seventh goal of the season, before Hall doubled the lead for the Badgers with just over a minute left in the first period.

O'Brien potted her 50th career goal to give Wisconsin the 3-0 lead at the beginning of the second period. Wozniewicz extended the lead with her fourth goal in four games, while Curl found the back of the net on the power play just 26 seconds later.

Wisconsin advanced to 3-3 on the power play as Eden tallied her second goal of the game, before Boston College grabbed their first of the game.

UW posted six goals in the third period as Murphy lit the lamp for the first time as a Badger and Edwards gave Wisconsin their fourth power play goal. Curl and Wozniewicz each grabbed their second goals of the night, while Jungels and Simms joined in on the fun in the final frame.

Ava McNaughton stopped 24 shots for her second win of the season.

Straight from the Rink
Head Coach Mark Johnson
On his overall thoughts of the game:

"There's some skill within our lineup and so you just have to manage things and make sure that when you don't have the puck, you play the other half of the game as well. It's the ebbs and flows of the season and what you do on a daily basis to make yourself better. You can't get ahead of yourself and come to practice on Sunday with a good attitude."

Junior Lacey Eden
On revealing the NCAA Championship Banner before the game:

"It was such an amazing experience at the start of the game. We had our teammates from last year, a whole bunch of alum [from] past years back and it was awesome to see all of them. I think that got us fired up but like coach said, once the puck drops its game time."

On what the team fixed from yesterday's game:
"I think we gained a lot of confidence from yesterday finishing that game strong and we knew what we had to do today. We tweaked a couple of things we wanted to work on, emphasized those blue lines, getting pucks deep and I think that showed today."

Up Next:
The Badgers continue their six-game homestand hosting Minnesota State next Thursday and Friday at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop for both games is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are still available on UWBadgers.com.
