Men's swimming earns nine NCAA qualifying times in Texas

Badgers also pick up five top-10 marks

AUSTIN, Texas -- The success continues for the 20th-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming team on day three of the Texas Invitational. The Badgers earned nine NCAA "B" qualifying times and five all-time top-10 marks on Friday.

Torok leads Badgers again

Sophomore Dominik Mark Torok was the top Badger finisher, taking second in the 400 individual medley in an NCAA B qualifying time of 3 minutes, 44.52 seconds. Sophomore Zach Ward picked up a "B" cut in the event as well, finishing fourth in 3:47.52.

Wisconsin also earned a second-place finish in the 200 free relay as the team of Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, Ben Wiegand, Andrew Benson and Chris Morris swam the fourth-fastest time in UW history and an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:17.30.

More qualifying marks

The Badgers picked up two top-eight finishes in the 200 freestyle and two NCAA "B" cuts. Freshman Luukas Vainio finished seventh in 1:34.70, ranking him No. 8 at Wisconsin and earning an NCAA B time. Junior Chris Morris finished eighth in 1:36.35 while junior Yigit Aslan took 10th in a "B" qualifying time of 1:35.76.

In the 100 breaststroke, Wisconsin earned two "B" cuts as well as two top-10 times. Senior Andrew Benson and junior Matthew Segal finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in 53.57 and 53.61 to earn qualifying times. Redshirt sophomore Ben Wiegand and grad Janis Silins moved into the top 10 at UW in the event. Wiegand finished 12th in 54.01 to move into eighth while Silins took 13th in 54.09 for ninth all time.

Senior Jake Newmark earned a top-four finish for UW, touching in 46.89 in the 100 backstroke for an NCAA "B" qualifyng time.

In the 100 butterfly, sophomore Charlie Jones swam a personal best time of 47.05 to earn a "B" qualifying mark.

Up Next

The Badgers wrap up competition at the Texas Invitational on Saturday. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. while finals start at 6 p.m. from Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
