Hamiti and Maylor lead Badgers' rally with pins
MADISON, Wis. — No. 25 Wisconsin wrestling battled through a slow start to upend visiting Bucknell on Sunday, 24-22.
Badgers Dean Hamiti and Max Maylor made quick work of their Bison opponents with pins to take the lead and set up teammate Shane Liegel to secure the team victory with a decision.
Several Badgers were wrestling up in weight classes with some reshuffling as the team continues to adjust its lineup this fall. Wisconsin and Bucknell split the bouts 5-5, but the Badgers held the advantage in points scored.
Eric Barnett opened the dual match with a dominant 16-0 tech fall in the first period over Bucknell's Grayson McLellan at 125 pounds to give the Badgers an early 5-0 lead. The UW senior scored a takedown and then three four-point near falls, in addition to one point awarded after a stalling penalty against McLellan.

After a scoreless first period, Zargo used three takedowns, an escape and riding time to clinch his fifth victory of the season and tie up the team score 9-9.

Wrestling up a weight class at 174, Hamiti tallied two quick takedowns against Myles Takat. It was all over in 97 seconds though as the UW junior turned Takats for the pin at 1:37 to give the Badgers six points and cut the Bucknell lead to 17-15. Prior to the match, Hamiti was also presented with his 2023 Big Ten Championship ring by the coaching staff in front of the UW Field House crowd and his family.

Making his debut for the Badgers and wrestling up one weight class at 184, Maylor stepped on the mat, scored one takedown for a 3-0 lead and then pinned Bucknell's Mikey Bartush in only 27 seconds to the delight of Wisconsin's fans. A strong start for Maylor after the graduate transfer from Michigan has fought through injuries to initially start the season. Maylor's six-point bonus win helped the Badgers retake a 21-17 lead with only two bouts remaining.

Liegel scored a takedown in the first period, then fought off Springer through the next two periods. The UW graduate transfer from Loras scored a third-period escape and collected an extra point for riding time for his fourth victory in his first and only season as a Badger. The win provided the Badgers with the outright victory in the team scoring with a 24-17 lead, ensuring the home victory no matter the outcome of the final bout at heavyweight.
Bucknell's Dorian Crosby earned a 19-4 tech fall over UW's Peter Christensen at 285 to close the match at 24-22.
Wisconsin travels to Philadelphia next Saturday to wrestle at Rider and Drexel in two separate dual matches.
