Badgers play Wolverines in two-game road series

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to take on the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines in a pair of contests at Yost Ice Arena.

Here's six quick things to know before tuning in:

Rosters: Badgers || Michigan

1 -  LAATSCH, TWO As: Sophomore defenseman Daniel Laatsch tallied a pair of assists on Friday against Notre Dame for the first multi-point game of his career. He made a shifty play behind the net to set up Jack Horbach to get the Badgers on the board in the first period before firing a shot from the slot for Charlie Stramel to redirect in front of the net for an equalizing goal.

2 - AWARD WATCH: Two Badgers were nominated for post-season awards.

Senior goaltender Jared Moe was nominated for the Mike Richter award, named after the former Badger great, it goes annually to the nation's best goaltender. Moe's four shutouts this season rank him tied for third for single-season shutouts at UW behind two seasons from current Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Brian Elliott.

Freshman forward and Badgers' leading scorer Cruz Lucius received a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award, given to college hockey's most outstanding player. Lucius averages a point per game with nine goals and 17 points for 24 points in 24 games.

3 - SECOND-HALF MATTY: For the second consecutive year, junior forward Mathieu De St. Phalle has picked up his scoring pace as the year has progressed. Over the last nine games, which began Dec. 10, De St. Phalle boasts three goals and nine points after scoring two goals and seven points through the first 17 games of the season. Last season, beginning Dec. 10, De St. Phalle scored nine goals and 20 points over his last 20 games after scoring just one goal and one assist over his first 16 games.

4 - LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers split with Michigan earlier this season at the Kohl Center, winning 6-3 the first night over then-No. 5/6 Michigan. That included overcoming a 2-0 deficit for the victory. In the second game, the Badgers and Wolverines were tied at 2-2 midway through the third period, but Michigan grabbed the lead and added an empty-net tally for a 4-2 victory.

5 - SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: Michigan (16-9-1, 8-8-0 Big Ten) is fresh off a series-sweep of then-No. 6 Penn State. The Wolverines scored seven goals to overcome Penn State 7-3, before claiming the second match 5-4, thanks to a hattrick by defenseman Luke Hughes.

Freshman Adam Fantilli leads the nation in points per game with 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 22 games.
