Edwards, Harvey and Simms earn spots on national docket
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's hockey trio of Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey and Kirsten Simms were three of the 28 first-year NCAA women's hockey players named to the Hockey Commissioners Association watch list for the National Rookie of the Year, the group announced on Thursday.
Harvey ranks second among all NCAA rookies in points this season with 30 points in 28 games for the Cardinal and White, while Simms has 23 points and Edwards has 16.
Harvey and Simms have each been named the WCHA Rookie of the Month this season while all three of them have earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors this year.
Harvey, Simms and Edwards all have international experience with Team USA as Harvey skated for the U.S. at the 2022 Winter Olympics while Edwards and Simms served as alternate captains for the U.S. at the 2022 IIHF U-18 Women's World Championship. Edwards was also named the MVP of the under-18 tournament that was held at LaBahn Arena.
The trio look to become the second Badger to receive the honor as Annie Pankowski was named the second Women's College Hockey Rookie of the Year in 2015.
The No. 8 Badgers welcome No. 14 St. Cloud State to Madison for a special weekend of hockey. The Badgers and Huskies will meet on Friday night in the seventh Fill the Bowl game at the Kohl Center as UW looks to match its NCAA single-game attendance record of 15,359. Tickets are only $2 and are still available on UWBadgers.Com. The two teams wrap up their series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at LaBahn Arena.
