MADISON, Wis. – Six members of the Wisconsin women's hockey team collected All-WCHA honors for the 2022-23 season, the league announced on Thursday.
Leading the way for UW is the trio of freshman
Caroline Harvey, senior
Nicole LaMantia and junior
Casey O'Brien as they all earned spots on the All-WCHA Second Team. Senior captain
Britta Curl was selected to the All-WCHA Third Team while UW rookies
Laila Edwards, Harvey and
Kirsten Simms all collected All-Rookie honors from the league.Â
Wisconsin's seven All-WCHA honors were the most by any school in the league while the six honorees were tied for the most by any school.Â
The WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year, Harvey has enjoyed a stellar freshman season with 34 points thanks to 10 goals and 24 assists. Her 34 points rank second among league defenders and are the third-most points by a rookie defender in school history. She also became the ninth Badger defender to post double-digit goals in a single season and her +34 plus/minus rating ranked second among league defenders.
LaMantia earned her third career All-WCHA accolade as the senior alternate captain has 26 points through 34 games for the Cardinal and White. The Wayne, Illinois, native became just the fourth Badger blueliner to post 100 career points thanks to her assist against St. Thomas last month.Â
O'Brien collected her second All-WCHA honor after earning third-team All-WCHA accolades a year ago. The alternate captain leads the Badgers with 40 points, marking the second straight season the center has recorded 40 or more points in a season. Her +35 plus/minus ranks is tied for the second-best mark in the WCHA. A native of MIlton, Massachusetts, O'Brien has been stellar in the faceoff circle as her 10.03 faceoff wins per game rank fifth in the league.Â
Curl also earned her second career All-WCHA honor after receiving third-team All-WCHA honors in 2021. The Bismarck, North Dakota, native leads all WCHA skaters with a +36 plus/minus rating while her 17 goals this season also led the team. The Badger captain ranks second on the team in blocked shots with 45 while her four power-play goals paced the team.Â
Edwards has nine goals and 12 assists this season and has posted a +22 plus/minus rating for the Cardinal and White. A native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Edwards has posted five points in her last five games, including goals against No. 4 Minnesota and No. 1 Ohio State Edwards has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week twice this season.Â
Simms ranks second among WCHA rookies in scoring with 27 points thanks to 13 goals and 14 assists. The center scored one of the biggest goals for the Badgers this season, an overtime game-winning penalty shot in the Badgers' 6-5 win over No. 1 Ohio State last weekend. A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Simms has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week and the WCHA Rookie of the Month this season.
The Badgers open postseason action with a WCHA First Round Series against Minnesota State this weekend at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest begins at 3 p.m. If a third game is necessary, it will take place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Tickets for the first two games are available on UWBadgers.Com.Â
