Badgers win two events on day three of B1G Champs

Newmark and Torok win individual events
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 23rd-ranked Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team ended the third day of the Big Ten Conference Championships in fourth place in the team standings after 14 events. The Badgers have 665.5 points. No. 6 Indiana leads the team race through 14 events with 1,030.5 points. No. 8 Ohio State ranks second with 924.5 points followed by No. 17 Michigan with 806 points.
Wisconsin crowned two champions on Friday, bringing its championship total to three titles, tying a school record for the most titles in a single season.
Junior Jake Newmark won his second conference title of the championship, adding the 200 free title to Thursday's championship in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Dominik Mark Torok claimed his first Big Ten title, winning the 400 individual medley.
The Badgers scored three other places in the 500 free as junior Andrew Benson placed 10th in 1:35.41, sophomore Nico Butera came in 13th in 1:36.58, and sophomore Yigit Aslan took 20th in 1:36.81.
Jekel earns bronze
Senior Wes Jekel took the podium in the 100 back, placing third in 45.80. Freshman Cooper Scharff also scored, taking 17th in a personal best time of 47.04, raking him ninth at UW.
Senior Will Myhre garnered a fourth-place finish in the 100 breast in 52.43. Junior Truman teDuits followed up with a ninth-place finish in a personal best time of 53.02, ranking him sixth on the UW top-10 list. Sophomore Matthew Segal took 12th in a personal best time of 53.33, moving him up to eighth on the Wisconsin performance list.
Junior Daniel Muller placed sixth in the 3-meter springboard with 358.60 points.

Newmark wins second Big Ten title
Newmark entered Friday's finals of the 200 free with the second-fastest qualifying time, but proved himself in the finals to earn his second individual title of the meet. With just over 50 yards remaining, Newmark came from behind to finish in 1 minutes, 31.61 seconds, breaking his own school record of 1:32.71 that he set during the lead-off leg of the 800 free relay on Wednesday.The Badgers scored three other places in the 500 free as junior Andrew Benson placed 10th in 1:35.41, sophomore Nico Butera came in 13th in 1:36.58, and sophomore Yigit Aslan took 20th in 1:36.81.
Torok claims first conference championship
Only a freshman, Torok entered the finals of the 400 IM with the day's second-fastest time but rallied in the final, hitting wall in 3:39.96 for the win. The Budapest, Hungary, native earned an NCAA "B" cut to mark his first conference win as well as a personal best time by more than three seconds. He was joined by Zach Ward, who placed 12th in a personal best time of 4:37.35, beating his previous best by over two seconds and ranking sixth on the UW top-10 performance list.Jekel earns bronze
