BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Badgers found their groove in Boca Raton this weekend going an undefeated 4-0Â and winning both games on day two against North Carolina, 5-4 and Villanova, 3-2.Â
UNC
In a rematch against the University of North Carolina, Wisconsin best the Tar Heels for the series sweep to start the day. Paytn Monticelli got the nod on the mound after her career-best day before. The freshman threw 6.2 innings and earned the win, and senior Maddie Schwartz got the save.
Kayla Konwent continued to do what she does best, hitting a home run in the first inning, scoring Skylar Sirdashney after the junior singled to start the game. The Badgers then went up 2-0, a lead they hung on to for the remainder of the game.Â
Wisconsin added an insurance run in the fourth inning when Konwent added another hit, singling in her second at-bat. Brooke Kuffel added a single of her own while advancing Marytherese Nevin, who was pinch-running for Konwent. After both runners made their way to second and third due to a fielder's choice, Peyton Bannon scored Nevin after a sacrifice fly to right field.Â
That 3-0 lead lasted until the seventh inning when both teams began heating up. Skylar Sirdashney hit a double to bring in what would end up being an essential run. Katie Keller did the same with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Rylie Crane who had reached on an error earlier in the inning.Â
The Tar Heels continued to battle despite being down 5-0 in their last chance at-bats. A single and double ignited a two-out rally; a sacrifice bunt then gave them the run they had been searching for. UNC's Kiersten Licea then sent the ball out to right center, plating two more runs with her triple.
After a couple Badger pitching changes, and UNC within a run, senior Maddie Schwartz came in to close the game and did so in on batter for the save.
Wisconsin won the game narrowly, 5-4. Both Konwent and Sirdashney went 2-for-4 against the Tar Heels in the early morning game. Ellie Hubbard, Molly Schlosser, and Brooke Kuffel each chipped in with a single.
VILLANOVA
Wisconsin had time to regroup after their 8:00 a.m game and came out with the same fire against the Wildcats, winning 3-2.Â
The first few innings had minimal action for the Badgers other than a Kayla Konwent single in the bottom of the first. Villanova, however, did score a run in the second off two hits to grab a 1-0 lead. Ellie Hubbard changed that though in the third with a double down the left field line. Following Hubbard's first double of the season, Katie Keller singled to short stop scoring the sophomore infielder, knotting up the game, 1-1.
Villanova took back their lead quickly though with a single and double of their own to even things out in the top of the fourth.Â
Ava Kuszak started the fifth inning rally as she started it with a single up the middle. Ellie Hubbard then laid down a bunt single that placed both her and Kuszak safely at first and second. A dribbler to first and a hit by pitch to Keller loaded the bases for none other than Kayla Konwent. The star player was walked to score Kuszak and even the score at two.Â
With the game still tied, everything came down to the bottom of the seventh inning. Kuszak was once again led the comeback rally earning a walk to kick-off the inning. Hubbard once again bunted, this time sacrificing herself and Kuszak running aggressively to advance all the way to third base on the bunt. The Badgers would then walk off the game with a  Siradshney squeeze bunt, allowing Kuszak to hustle home and score the winning run.
Wisconsin secured their fourth victory of their weekend 3-2 to go undefeated at the Joan Joyce Classic. The Badgers are now 6-6 on the season.
Up Next: The Badgers will return home briefly before heading to Indiana for the Hoosier Classic where they will see Green Bay, IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne, and the University of IndianaÂ
