TULSA - Wisconsin wrestlers Dean Hamiti and Trent Hillger both earned NCAA All-America honors on Friday during Session Four of the 2023 NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following Friday's competitions, Hamiti and Hillger remain the only Badgers still competing and are now fighting for their final places on the podiums.
Competing at the BOK Center, Wisconsin finished Friday's fourth session tied for 15th place with 29.0 points along with Northern Iowa and Princeton. Penn State leads all teams with 116.5 points, followed by Iowa (77.0) and Cornell (64.0) in the top three. Full results for the team and all individuals are below.

Friday's morning session saw five Badgers compete, but only two - Hamiti and Hillger - ultimately survived to advance. Both Hamiti and Hillger had initially qualified for the quarterfinals on Thursday and lost those matches on Friday morning to enter consolations.
Hamiti dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to familiar foe Cameron Amine (Michigan) in the 165-pound quarterfinal. Entering consolations, sophomore Hamiti earned a 10-2 major decision against Austin Yant (Northern Iowa) to earn his second All-America honor in as many years and then defeated Izzak Olejnik (Northern Illinois) in a 7-3 decision on Friday night. Hamiti will now wrestle Princeton Quincy Monday on Saturday morning to advance to the third-place match in the consolation semifinals. Hamiti last wrestled Monday in the Midlands Championships title match at 165, losing 4-3 in a tightly-fought battle.
Hillger battled Penn State's Greg Kerkvliet to a 4-0 decision loss in the 285-pound quarterfinals before entering consolations on Friday morning. The Badgers graduate student then earned his fourth All-America honor in sudden-victory overtime with a late takedown against Iowa State's Sam Schuyler 3-1. Hillger lost his final match on Friday night in a 2-0 decision against Missouri's Zach Elam and possibly suffered a leg injury. He's slated to wrestle Arizona State's Cohlton Schultz on Saturday morning in the heavyweight seventh-place match.
Both Garrett Model (157) and Austin Gomez (149) did not advance past Friday's morning session. Model lost a 9-6 decision to Cael Swenson (South Dakota State), while Gomez won his first consolation match over Kellyn March (North Dakota State) with a 9-1 major decision. However Gomez later lost his second consolation match in a surprising fall to Michigan's Chance Lamer. Gomez was caught quickly on a turn at the start of the bout and Lamer pinned Gomez in 43 seconds.
Eric Barnett advanced out of consolations to Friday night's fourth session, dubbed the "blood round". He earned an impressive upset win against Brandon Kaylor (Oregon State) after a quick fall in just 29 seconds. He also defeated Michigan's Jack Medley in a 9-4 decision. Barnett collected his second loss to Eddie Ventresca (Virginia Tech) in a tight 3-1 decision and could advance no farther.
Looking ahead to Saturday, action starts at 10 a.m. CT for Session Five.
