Wisconsin looks toward IRAs
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wisconsin women's lightweight team competed in its conference championship on Lake Quinsigamond at the Women's Eastern Sprints on Sunday.Â
The Badgers continued to build on what they have been working on this season. The team competed in five races, and showed strong progress in the varsity eight and varsity four, as they closed the gap against Georgetown from when they matched up against them a month ago.
Wisconsin faced off against Princeton, BU, Georgetown, Radcliffe and Gordon. The Badgers will now take this experience, and bring it with them to the IRAs.
Up next: Wisconsin will take the month of May to prepare for the IRA National Championship on June 2-4 in Lake Mercer, New Jersey

On how the day went
"Tough, but we did feel like it was still gutsy racing from our crews and still a step in the right direction. We raced Georgetown four weeks ago and closed seven seconds in the varsity eight and closed 11 seconds in the varsity four today."
"We are excited about the prospect of the next few weeks to continue to get more technical and continue to build speed."
On how the team is feelings heading into preparation for IRAs
"Realistically optimistic and determined. We have the leisure of more time to be able to break things down fundamentally and try to find more speed with our athletes. I think the team seems in pretty good spirits. We are closer to the 'pack' than we have been and we are excited to use that momentum to keep chasing."
On what the focus will be for the next month of training
"Continue to build. We've seen the progress we've made even in the last month and are excited about the next month. We will break down into some smaller boat work to focus on smaller, more individual tech challenges and have more pace boats to push each other. Also excited about the prospect of classes/exams ending so that we can really all lock into the postseason."
