
Schaefer snags second-team All-America honors in discus

Senior caps off collegiate career with nine All-America honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Josie Schaefer collected second-team All-America honors in the discus to highlight action for the Wisconsin women's track and field program at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Championships on Saturday.Â
Schaefer displayed an incredible effort in the discus after competing in the shot put Thursday. She placed 12th overall in the event with a distance of 180 feet, 4 inches, as her first attempt was her top attempt.Â
Schaefer posted her personal best throw of 188-3 at the Wisconsin Classic and was also the runner-up at the Big Ten Championships in May.Â
A native of Baraboo, Schaefer capped off her collegiate career with school records in the indoor shot put (61-0 1/4) and outdoor shot put (62-3 1/4) while she ranked second in the discus (188-3), trailing only two-time Olympian Kelsey Card. She collected nine All-America honors (four first-team and five second team), including two All-America honors at this meet. Â
