Oliver named to U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team staff

New Badger assistant will serve in similar role at upcoming Hlinka Gretzky Cup

MADISON, Wis.Nick Oliver, who was recently added to the Wisconsin men's hockey staff as an assistant coach, will take on a similar role with USA Hockey at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, set for Aug. 1-6 in Breclav, Czechia, and Piestany, Slovakia.

Oliver boasts previous USA Hockey experience, guiding Team USA to a second-place finish at the 2022 Five Nations Tournament and a third-place effort at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge.

The reigning USHL Coach of the Year after leading the Fargo Force to the Anderson Cup as regular-season champions, Oliver directed the team to the Clark Cup Final, as well. The team won 40 games and led the league with 88 points.

The 2015 St. Cloud State graduate also assisted at his alma mater, helping the Huskies to its first NCAA title game in 2021, an NCHC title and a No. 1 NCAA tourney seed during four seasons.

The Roseau, Minnesota, native also spent time coaching the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede for three years.

Oliver will assist former UW associate head coach Luke Strand, who begins his tenure as head coach at Minnesota State.
