UW sophomore connected on three field goals in win over Purdue
MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin kicker Nathanial Vakos was named Big Ten special teams player of the week, as announced by the conference on Monday morning. Vakos connected on three second-half field goals to help the Badgers hold of Purdue for a 38-17 win in the Big Ten opener on Friday night in West Lafayette, Ind.
Vakos hit from 38, 22 and 48 yards, while also converting three extra points in the victory. Vakos is now 7-for-7 this season on field goal attempts and is the only Big Ten kicker to be perfect through five or more tries this season. Vakos and Alabama's Will Reichard are the only FBS kickers to be 7-for-7 this season.
Vakos is the first Badger to earn Big Ten special teams player of the week honors since Collin Larsh earned the accolade after going 3-for-3 on field goals in a win over Purdue on the road on Oct. 23, 2021.
The Badgers (3-1, 1-0) enter their bye week before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 7. UW hosts Rutgers for homecoming at Camp Randall Stadium.
