MADISON, Wis. – No. 21 Wisconsin men's soccer battled the Mercer Bears to a scoreless tie Friday. The game was played in front of a roaring student section during UW's Colony Night.
How It Happened:
Wisconsin limited Mercer to just one shot in the first half, thanks to their defensive play, including that of TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week defenderÂ
Drew Brown. Wisconsin put up seven shots, although both teams fail to get one on goal in the first half.
Â
The Badgers opened the second half with two shots on goal less than two minutes apart.
Markie Hrvojevic almost put one in with a header in the 50th minute, and then
Jack Finnegan fired a shot that Mercer keeper Trevor McMullen saved with his leg at the last moment.
Both teams traded more scoring opportunities throughout the second half, but none found the net. Wisconsin finished with a 13-4 shot advantage, keeper
Nate Crockford saved Mercer's one shot on goal in the game.

Comments from Head Coach Neil Jones:
"I want to thank all the students in the Colony and Area Red. -- it was a great atmosphere for our guys to play in. Mercer knows how to defend, they go on the road and get results. We defended really well, keeping them at bay. Anytime you outshoot a team and their goalie is the man of the match you walk away disappointed, but Mercer is a tough out for anybody. It was a positive performance by our group."
Key Notes:
- The Badgers still have yet to concede a goal at home this season, extending their streak to four games. Nate Crockford has saved all ten shots that opponents have shot at home, and the Badgers have limited opponents to just 4.5 shots per game.
- Junior Ryan Keefe made his first start with the Badgers this season. He had previously come off the bench in two games. Keefe finished with a shot on goal.
- Jack Finnegan led all players with two shots on goal. His five shots on goal for the season are tied for first on the team. Finnegan led the team with 15 shots on goal last season.
