Sophomore among thirty candidates
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin men's basketball sophomore AJ Storr is one of 30 candidates named to the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award midseason watch list, as announced on Wednesday.
Storr is one of two Big Ten players on the list, joined by Purdue's Zach Edey.
The transfer from Rockford, Ill., is leading the Badgers averaging 14.9 points per game this season. He has scored in 13 of 15 games this season (10 straight) and led UW in scoring in five games.
Storr scored a career high 29 points against Chicago State on Dec. 22, 2023, surpassing his previous high of 23 points while playing at St. John's.
Storr became the first Badger to score in double figures in each of his first three games since NBA Draft lottery pick Devin Harris did so in each of his first four games (2001-02 season).
The Lute Olson Award is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson, who won 776 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997. In 2002, Olson was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of CollegeInsider.com.
The 2024 award will be announced in Phoenix, Ariz., at the site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
