MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Michigan for a tri-meet against the Wolverines and Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday. Friday's session is set to begin at 4 p.m. and Saturday will start at 10 a.m.
Before the Badgers dive in, here are five things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT: Both the men (1-0) and women (1-0) completed clean sweeps of UW-Green Bay on Friday afternoon at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center. The Badgers went one, two, three in every event. Senior Yigit Aslan won both of his events, finishing with a time of 1:38.60 in the 200 freestyle and 4:27.97 in the 500 freestyle. Ben Wiegand also finished first in the 50 freestyle (20.10) and 100 breaststroke (54.85). On the women's side, Phoebe picked up first place finishes in 100 fly with a time of 53.38 and 200 free with a time of 1:47.62.
2. DIVING RIGHTÂ IN:Â Molly Hampton finished on top in the 1-meter with 238.95 points and 252.83 points in the 3-meter. Freshman Greta Kavanagh made her collegiate debut against Green Bay, scoring 221.63 points in the 1-meter and 218.40 in the 3-meter.
On the men's side, freshman Jaden Eikermann won the 1-meter with 303.45 points as junior Jan Lanser finished with 297.68 points. They flipped spots on the 3-meter as Lanser came out on top with 344.40 points and Eikermann scored 332.93 points.
3. IN THE TOP 25: The women check in at No. 15 for the first poll of the regular season and the men check in at No. 23. The women moved down one spot from their initial, preseason ranking of 14. The men moved down three spots from their initial, preseason ranking of 20.
4. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Michigan is ranked 16th on the men's side. The Wolverines finished just one spot ahead of Wisconsin in the 2024 Men's Big Ten Championship scoring 1153.5 points to secure a third place finish, as UW scored 1044.5 points. The Badgers opened up the 2023-24 season in a dual meet against Notre Dame, falling 163-137. The Fighting Irish are not currently in the CSCAA poll.
On the women's side, Michigan checks in at No. 14. With the same result as the men, Michigan got the edge over Wisconsin in the 2024 Women's Big Ten Championship, scoring 1207 points for a third place finish. The Badgers tallied 978 points to grab their second-straight fourth place finish at Big Tens. In the season-opening dual meet against Notre Dame last season, the Badgers came out on top, 213-87, winning 14 events. The Notre Dame women also are not in the CSCAA poll as of now.
