O’Brien named WCHA Forward of the Month

The Badger co-captain received the award after a strong start to the season against Lindenwood.
MADISON, Wis. – Badgers co-captain Casey O'Brien received the WCHA Forward of the Month Award after helping Wisconsin to a sweep of Lindenwood to open the season, the league announced Wednesday.
O'Brien notched eight points on two goals and six helpers in Wisconsin's season-opening series against Lindenwood. With the strong performance, O'Brien leads the WCHA in assists (6), assists per game (3.00), total points (8) and points per game (4.00).
O'Brien's lead in the total points and total assists category is made more impressive by the fact that the second place holders in both categories have played two more games than the Badgers.
The Milton, Massachusetts, native is coming into this season after a program-record and NCAA-leading 50 assist season. O'Brien is currently tied for first in the NCAA with six assists and is third in terms of points per game.
O'Brien sits in fourth place in school history now in career assists with 121 assists, only 17 short of Sara Bauer's school record of 138 assists.
The Badger co-captain will have a chance to add more points this weekend as the No. 1 Badgers head east to take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., Puck drop on both Friday and Saturday is set for 5 p.m. CT. Friday's game will air live on ESPNU while Saturday's contest can be seen on ESPN+. Both games can be heard in the Madison area on The Game 1070 and via the iHeart Radio app.
