Badgers loses 5-3 to close out the series in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team (4-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) put up a valiant effort, eventually falling short in a 5-3 setback to the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) at OSU Ice Rink.
Cassie Hall came out hot, finding an early goal for the Badgers just 34 seconds into the game. Hall received the puck from Charlotte Pieckenhagen and Nela Lopušanová to make it 1-0.
The Badgers held the lead for just a few minutes as Ohio State found three consecutive goals in the first, making it 3-1.
UW responded accordingly, and freshman Maddy Kimbrel tallied her first NCAA career goal. Laney Potter and Maggie Scannell found the assists on Kimbrel's goal.
To open the second period of play, Potter found the puck from Hall and Shayla Beaudette to tie things up. The secondary assist from Beaudette marked the freshman's first NCAA career point.
Ten seconds into the third period, the Buckeyes took the lead back making things 4-3. Ohio wrapped up the scoring with one final insurance goal to end the game.
Up Next: The Badgers return home next weekend to face Minnesota State at LaBahn Arena on Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday Oct. 17.
