Team White got off to a strong start thanks to outside shooting from both newcomers and veterans. Senior guard Max Klesmit hit two triples of his own, while freshman Daniel Freitag and transfer John Tonje each made a 3-pointer to introduce themselves to Badgers fans.
Team Red found its early stride with shots near the rim thanks to strong drives and efficient passing. Returning players John Blackwell (13 points) and Steven Crowl (10 points) were the main beneficiaries.
Team Red battled back to take the lead near the end of the first half. The effort came on the defensive side from players like Kamari McGee, who helped force key turnovers that led to a 12-0 run for Team Red over the final five minutes of the first half. McGee finished the game with 11 points.
Team Red did not relinquish its lead in the second half, thanks in part to strong showings from its bench. Redshirt freshman Jack Janicki hit two 3-pointers and collected two assists, while Chris Hodges went 3-for-5 from the field, including an emphatic dunk off the feed from Jack Robison. Robison, a freshman, had a nice game himself, scoring six points off two 3-pointers.
Team White stayed in the game with their ability to draw fouls. Tonje scored seven points in the second half alone, going 4-for-5 from the free throw line. The senior transfer finished the scrimmage with a team-high 12 points for Team White.
Up Next: Wisconsin hosts its lone exhibition against UW-River Falls on October 30, before officially tipping off the season at home versus Holy Cross on November 4.
